Dentures & Partial Dentures

Dentures are a replacement for missing teeth that can be removed and put back into your mouth as you please.  They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile. Central Park Dentistry specializes in dentures for patients in NYC.

There are two types of dentures:

Complete Dentures:
This is when all the teeth are removed and the tissue is given time to heal before the dentures are placed. It could take a few months for the gum tissue to heal completely, and during this time you will be without teeth.

Full Dentures:
Prior to having your teeth removed, our dentists will take measurements of your teeth to have the dentures fitted for your mouth. After removing the teeth, the dentures are placed in your mouth. The benefit is that you do not have to spend any time without teeth. There will need to be a follow up visit to refit your dentures because the jaw bone will slightly change shape as your mouth heels. The dentures will need to be tightened after the jaw bone has healed.

Dentures are very durable appliances and will last many years, but may have to be remade, repaired, or readjusted due to normal wear.

Reasons for dentures:

  • Complete Denture – Loss of all teeth in an arch.
  • Partial Denture – Loss of several teeth in an arch.
  • Enhancing smile and facial tissues.
  • Improving chewing, speech, and digestion.

What does getting dentures involve?

The process of getting dentures requires several appointments, usually over several weeks.  Highly accurate impressions (molds) and measurements are taken and used to create your custom denture.   At the final appointment, our dentists will precisely adjust and place the completed denture, ensuring a natural and comfortable fit.

You should care for dentures like they are your real teeth. You should brush them to remove plaque and food particles before removing your dentures. After they have been removed you should place them directly into room temperature water or a denture cleaning solution.
